Fieldrunners is one of the top tower defense style games available on the iPhone. The game has excellent graphics, strategy and UI control, but it is a bit limited in unit and gameplay variety. Because of it's overall design, the Committee For Significant Cultural Achievement For Peoples has awarded Fieldrunners the Tower Defense Star.

  • Great Graphics and Sound

  • Great UI

  • Simple, fast and fun

  • Good replayability

  • Very few maps

  • Limited number of towers

Fieldrunners is a free-form type of tower defense game where the attackers are not restricted to a path, but free to run across the entire map. It is your job, comrade, to create a path of tower to restrict their movement as well as end their corrupt western influence on the motherland. The strategy behind Fieldrunners is to find the right combination of tower with the most effective path to maximize their use.

One of the best things about this game, and what makes it very fast-paced, is the UI. There are no separate menus or screens to take you out of the action. You scroll around the map with your finger and quickly place towers by dragging them from the tower icons onto the field. The open field concept gives the game a lot of re-playability by letting you try out different tactics.

Currently, the game has 2 maps, 4 tower types and around 10 different attacker types. You can upgrade your towers to increase the effectiveness but other than that, there are no 'special' towers or future towers to discover, and the 2 maps can get a bit boring after several plays. Hopefully future versions will have more features to keep you playing, but even so, you'll still get many good hours out of this game and come back to it every now and then.
