This game is one of those "easy to learn, hard to master" kind of deals. The premise of this game is you're a commander of a space fleet out to conquer your enemies. There's no story here but pure strategy. Launch ships from your planetary HQ to 'colonize' unaligned planets or go for the kill and direct your ships towards your enemies. It's all up to you.

The graphics are clean and simple with a top view of the battle space and ships are represented by triangles coming from planets, which are shown as circles. It has a quick tutorial on first play to brief you on how to  create and command ships. The simple menu adapts well and the backgrounds and music were a nice touch as well.

One of the things that makes it stand out is the finely tuned difficulty levels. You can play 10 difficulty levels, from Cabin Boy (easiest) to Grand Admiral (most brutal). There's also 8 different types of battle scenarios which involve everything from moving planets to three-way fights against other systems. This should keep you busy for a while, or frustrated if you're like me and can't earn his admiral stripes.

For those who like beating up real live people, there's also an online multiplayer available. Sadly, there's no local play available. You'll need an account with their website to combat other users. One thing I'd suggest is they add some Game Center support for more multiplayer options.

The strong AI, smooth graphics and fast paced gameplay make this a great game to add to your strategy collection.

Pros

  • Easy to learn, hard to master

  • Simple interface lets you focus on the game

  • Several difficult levels and game types

Cons

  • No Game Center integration

  • Needs local multiplayer

  • No story
