Cargo Runners is a recently released iPad-only board game that follows the style of a traditional board game similar to "Ticket to Ride". The game offers both online and hot-seat multiplayer but feels like it is still a bit early in the development process. There are a number of bugs and odd features that will hopefully be improved upon in future updates.

The goal of the game is to make the most money by completing 'Contracts' for delivering certain cargo to ports around the world. The more difficult the cargo is to get the more the contract is worth. The real fun starts when you start competing with other players to deliver the same cargo as you can actually steal cargo from each other and foil their plans by moving their ship to another spot on the board.

Once you do have a plan for getting the cargo you need, you have to watch out for random events that block certain paths and entire continents and make you have to come up with a new strategy to complete your contracts.

The graphic style is excellent but animations of the ships moving could be greatly improved. They are currently designed to look like you are moving a piece on an actual board but could look a lot better if the developers take advantage of the features of the iPad/video game format. This in general seems like a decision made by the developers to make the game as much like a board game as possible, but I think that just holds the game back from making it faster paced and more unique.

The more players you have the more fun the game becomes, but if you have a group of friends together and you share one iPad the experience is not as much fun as playing an actual board game. This pretty much happens though with most iPad board games, the screen is just too small to make for an engaging experience with more than 2 people.

Overall the game is very well thought out and look like it will one day be a winner. In it's current format though it would be a lot more fun to play if it was an actual board game, but it's still pretty good if you can find some people to play online multiplayer with. Personally I hope that a lot more people buy it so that I'll have some people to play with online :)
