Tower Defense games are now becoming a dime a dozen with very few of them offering a lot in terms of originality. Illumesoft’s new futuristic Era TD HD is one exception to this statement, though, as it brings in a whole new level of excitement to a genre that was slowly becoming way too predictable. Well, with ERA TD, the gameplay doesn’t really change much; but it’s the implementation of the various gameplay mechanics that make this app a must- have.

The game gives you three options to start out on – Campaign, Challenge and Endless – each with its different elements of challenges and fun. There’s a variety of 100 different enemies, each with special abilities, along with seven bosses to fight against. The different forces and abilities that get unlocked along the way and the way they are placed play a crucial role (much more than what I’ve seen in other TD games) in helping you win a particular round. What’s best is that these upgrades happen rapidly as the game progresses, keeping you well engrossed. The difficulty increases as the levels go by so newbies to tower defense games may find a little monotony creeping in, if they can’t pass a particular stage. Here’s a hint - The aerial enemies are particularly difficult to kill so keep an eye out for them.

ERA TD has brilliant graphics and an engaging futuristic sound track. The various types of backdrops and maps increase the replayability factor of the game multifold and the quick missions all together make it a fun, portable game. Another plus point is that in app purchases, though existent, aren’t vital to your progress in the game, making it a one-time purchase game you can enjoy for a long time.  It’s clearly one of the best tower defense games on the App Store at the moment and it looks that it will hold on to that award for a while at least.

  • Brilliant graphics

  • Tons of well-placed powerups

  • Great re-playability factor

  • Competitive and exciting gameplay

  • Slight monotony at times
